Smudging 101

Smudging has been used for centuries to cleanse a person, object or space to purify and clear negative energy.

The most common herbs used is sage although other materials such as eucalyptus are great and add different properties to your smudging.

It can be a great time to burn sage when moving into a new home, after an argument, experiencing low mood, after someone has been sick or whenever you feel the need to clear out your space and reset your intentions.

I always tell our customers that smudging is a physical action for intention setting or reclaiming your space with positivity.

You don't need to get too fancy and ritualistic however mindfully going through the following steps should have you feeling more positive and grounded.

-Light a smudge stick and let it catch fire, use a bowl or similar to catch any ash. Blow out the fire and let the smoke billow from the sage stick.

-Walk slowly around your home and using a feather or your hand moving the smoke gently around each room, into all the corners, over the furniture, cupboards etc.  You can imagine the smoke clearing all negativity away, use your intuition for how long to stay in each space.

If it helps you can say something in your mind or out loud such as- I am choosing to cleanse this space of any negative thoughts and intentions that are no longer of service to my highest good. (or something similar, there are many suggestions online)

When I am smudging my home, I start at the back of my house and finish at the front door then stand outside and smudge myself- allowing the smoke to move over my body and imagine i am also cleansed and grounded.

Butt out the sage stick when finished, you can reuse if you wish.

Thats it. You can make it more ritualistic with bells etc if you like however for me its about the reclaiming of energy and space.

I have smudge kits and sticks available for sale if needed.
